The Need for Proper Air Duct Sealing in Marin

Do You Need Air Duct Sealing in Marin? Check These Signs:

Are you facing high energy bills in summer or winter? Does it take longer than usual to heat or cool your home? Are you noticing dust and debris circulating indoors? These could be signs of holes, leaks, disconnected ducts, or unbalanced air distribution in your ductwork.

Sealing your air ducts can enhance your home's comfort and energy efficiency. Energy Star suggests that 20-30% of the air in your ducts can be lost due to these problems, causing your HVAC system to overwork and bringing in dust from attics or crawl spaces.

The Process and Benefits of Air Duct Sealing in Marin

The Sealing Procedure:

  • Unsealed Boot Problem: This allows dust and debris to infiltrate your home and conditioned air to escape.
  • Sealing with Mastic Tape: The metal boot under the register is secured using mastic tape.
  • Mastic Sealant Use: The boot is sealed to the floor with mastic sealant.

Benefits of Air Duct Sealing:

  • Better Air Quality: Sealing prevents dust and debris from entering your home, improving indoor air quality.
  • Increased Comfort: A sealed system ensures more effective heating and cooling, maintaining a comfortable environment.
  • Extended HVAC Life: Reducing strain on your HVAC system prolongs its lifespan.
  • Lower Environmental Impact: Enhanced efficiency reduces energy use, decreasing your carbon footprint.

The Air Doctor Standards

Air Doctor adheres to NADCA standard specification guide and uses the source removal method. We use a portable HEPA filtered air duct vacuum system (and/or gas-powered commercial air duct vacuums) to clean all supply ducts, return air ducts, and plenums. This system is brought into each room and used in conjunction with a compressed air whip (and/or rotating power brushes). The air whip agitates the duct while the HEPA filtered air duct vacuum system creates a negative vacuum at 3500 cfm (up to 10,000 cfm with our gas-powered commercial air duct vacuums). Once each supply air duct is cleaned, the return air system is cleaned in the same fashion. Finally, we clean the furnace unit.
